Rebought books on Kobo after noticing file size differences from Google Play

Yesterday, I bought two ebooks on Google Play. Later, I saw some discussions online suggesting that Kobo generally offers better image quality in its ebooks compared to Kindle. This made me wonder, and I also started to suspect that the Google Play books I'd just bought might have smaller file sizes compared to the same titles on Kobo. So, I decided to buy the exact same two books again on Kobo to compare them directly. After downloading both sets (all EPUBs via ACSM, then stripped of DRM), I found a significant difference: the Kobo EPUB files were much, much larger than their Google Play counterparts. Finally, I'm wondering: Is Kobo generally considered the best option for purchasing ebooks? My goal is to archive my purchased ebooks on cloud storage, so I need the highest possible quality files for that purpose. If you've noticed any other suspicious details or similar discrepancies, please share!!! via /r/ebooks https://ift.tt/FRlBUPy
